History of the house

The Casino de Monte-Carlo opened in 1863 under Prince Charles III and was operated from the start by the Société des Bains de Mer; François Blanc took over the casino business in 1863. By ordinance of 1 June 1866 the district was named Monte-Carlo.

Charles Garnier, architect of the Paris Opera, created the Salle Garnier, inaugurated on 25 January 1879. The Nice–Monaco railway, opened on 19 October 1868, made the principality easier to reach.
