Macau

History of the house

Macau is the only place in China where casinos are legal. The Portuguese administration legalised gaming in the mid-19th century (a decree of 1847 is cited). In 1962 STDM received a monopoly that lasted about 40 years; Hotel Lisboa opened in 1970.

In 2002 the government ended the monopoly and awarded several concessions. In May 2004 the first house of an international operator opened near the ferry terminal.
