History of the house
The Lindau casino first opened its doors on 22 April 1950 and is regarded as the oldest casino in Bavaria. It celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2025; it is one of nine state casinos in the Free State.
The present building on the lake recalls a gaming chip in its shape. Small-stage evenings are held regularly on the casino stage in the foyer.
Getting there
- The travel guide lists Friedrichshafen (FDH), Munich (MUC), Stuttgart (STR) and Zurich (ZRH) as arrival airports; Memmingen (FMM) is ≈ 50 km away.
- Continue by train to Lindau-Insel or Lindau-Reutin. From Friedrichshafen the RB 93 runs hourly to Lindau-Insel; since the end of 2021 many regional trains stop at Reutin.

The house and the place
Lindau lies on Lake Constance where Germany, Austria and Switzerland meet. The old town on the island, about 68 hectares in size, goes back to a convent founded in the 9th century; the town has about 25,000 inhabitants today.
In 2024 almost 65,000 guests visited the casino. Small-stage evenings are held monthly on the casino stage in the foyer, so the house is also a place for culture.
At 33 m the New Lighthouse in the harbour is the only lighthouse in Bavaria and the southernmost in Germany; in fine weather it can be climbed for an entrance fee (139 steps). The Lindau-Insel station building lies right in the historic centre and is a listed monument.
