Las Vegas

History of the house

Nevada legalised gaming in 1931. On 2 April 1931 the Clark County Commission granted the first eight licences; most of the businesses were at the west end of Fremont Street downtown.

On 3 April 1941 the El Rancho Vegas opened on what became the Strip, the first hotel-casino there. Since then the large resorts have been built along Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Getting there

  • The airport (Harry Reid International, LAS) is at the southern end of the Strip. City buses run along the Strip and link it with downtown; the monorail is east of the Strip.
  • The Strip starts ≈ 2 miles south of downtown. For a particular house, check the journey with the transport operator.

Times and distances are approximate (≈), without guarantee. Check timetables with the transport operator.

On the way and nearby

  • Fremont Street Experience – Pedestrian mall downtown with an LED canopy.
  • The Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard South) – Street lined with the large hotels.
